Super, Neighbours in British Columbia: Painter's Lodge 4 of 5 - Dining

Welcome to the latest series of Super, Neighbours blog posts where we highlight incredible travel destinations in British Columbia! A little while back I did THIS series of posts on a visit to April Point Resort on Quadra Island.

A little while back I did THIS series of posts on a visit to April Point Resort on Quadra Island. Directly across the Discovery Pass from April Point is Painter's Lodge, another fine Oak Bay Marine Group resort. It's Oak Bay's 50th anniversary in 2012 and this current adventure I'm bringing you on has some serious heritage involved, specifically fishing heritage in BC!

The first post was about THE TRIP THERE, the second about the ACCOMMODATIONS, the third about the FREE SHUTTLE that they've got which takes you to Quadra Island and now it's time to eat!

Welcome to the latest series of Super, Neighbours blog posts where we highlight incredible travel destinations in British Columbia!

I've done enough of these travel articles at resorts now that I've really started to look for certain things when dining, beyond the food and the ambience and the friendly service. I've started to notice (and rank!) the views that we get from the dining rooms of the resorts we stay at, and Painter's ranks pretty high on this ranking system I'm compiling. Here's one of many great sights witnessed from our table in the dining room.

And the table itself. We managed to luck into this one at almost every meal.

Staring with dinner the first night. If there is halibut on the menu, that is what I'm ordering. Theirs comes with an excellent quinoa cassoulet.

My wife Katie doesn't have an "if it's on the menu I must order it!" hangup like I do, but I imagine if this lamb chop was on the menu she looks at tonight she would order it again.

There are many healthy choices for kids too! Alro had this salmon.

Desserts were next level!

And sometimes simple, and simply awesome.

When it comes to breakfast, 2 things are usually certain; Katie is going to get the eggs benny if it's on the menu and I'm going to get the traditional bacon and eggs. We were not disappointed.

And neither was Arlo with a lil' guys traditional.

The second day we veered from our usual choices and I went with the huevos rancheros, which I only wish was on most breakfast menus.

Katie went with french toast.

Arlo got the sweetest, most fun pancake and sausage dish ever!

And you'll notice that lunch is missing from all of this, and that's because we went over to April Point. READ all about that excursion.

Second dinner for me was this tasty steak.

Arlo had the mac and cheese.

Katie tells me her french onion soup was deelish.

As was her seafood plate!

Stay tuned for Part 5 when we introduce you to the Tyee Club of British Columbia. SERIOUS heritage and fishing tales coming up.
