Van City... Guinea! Meet Courgette and Aubergine!

It has come to my attention that Vancouver's little pets are in need of some VIA love! The Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Organization , who we often feature in our monthly Take Us Home editions , has recently joined the Pets Are Not Products campaig

It has come to my attention that Vancouver's little pets are in need of some VIA love!

The Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Organization, who we often feature in our monthly Take Us Home editions, has recently joined the Pets Are Not Products campaign to help encourage people to adopt small pets from rescue organizations rather than purchasing them from pet stores. In the spirit of cat lovers helping the smaller animal friends get some attention, this week we are featuring two adorable guinea pigs!

Here are the deets on Courgette and Aubergine, submitted by VIA reader : Rebecca MacKenzie!

Breed/Colouring: Courgette is half-Abyssinian, which makes her black hair stick out in all directions. Aubergine is Courgette’s mom and looks like her namesake; the eggplant.

Hood: East Village (Hastings-Sunrise)

Habits: Hiding, scurrying, making loud squeaking noises at plastic bags. They also like playing "guinea pig tag," where Courgette chases Aubergine around biting her on the bum (Aubergine does not like that game.) They also enjoy watching movies on Netflix, especially the Young Victoria.

Hangouts: Courgette is quite partial to her wobbly striped couch and will go anywhere she isn’t supposed to be (especially where there are a lot of wires.) Aubergine keeps to herself mostly in their little guinea pig tepee or near the food bowl.

Names: Courgette and Aubergine (aka Corgs and Aubey)

Favorite Things: Cilantro and newspapers, especially the Globe and Mail. Luckily their human caretaker works at a newspaper printing plant and supplies them with lots of papers and boxes in which to hide. Also, the musical stylings of Eric Church (I can’t explain this…)

Other Info: These two squeakers originally hailed from Prince George where they were surrendered to the SPCA. Since then they have made the long journey to Vancouver where they lived among the rabbits for a couple months before they were adopted. They are already planning their Halloween costumes and can’t decide between going as fruit bats or as Khaleesi’s dragons from Game of Thrones.
