Okay, so maybe there are no other jam, cheese, salsa and pickle competitions around these parts but I think that's a part of the beauty of the one that the Vancouver Farmers Markets hosted this week in partnership with the PNE (which is opening on August 17th).
It happened at the Main Street Farmer's Market yesterday under a tent filled with many samples of cheeses, jams, salsas and pickles in 19 different categories. I was on board as a judge alongside sous chef Jessie McMillan from Campagnolo, Diane Collis from Fresh Choice Kitchens and Natalie Ferrari-Morton from Homesteading Mamas and what could have been secretive judging turned into a bit of a show for onlookers as Phil Solman of Edible Vancouver magazine MC'd and encouraged people to participate in a People's Choice Award.
