Trade School Vancouver is is a non-traditional learning community that runs on barter. Pay for class with items and services, not money. Through a partnership with V.I.A. we'll be bringing you stories of our recent classes we've put on, as well as giving you a heads up to ones you can sign up for.

It's mid-August, and at Trade School, we have been continuously sharing ideas and learning new things!

Last month, Modo the Car Co-Op was kind enough to ask us to be part of their Sharing Station at the Chinatown Night Market. The theme of the evening was photography, and the night ended with Night Visions - a photo projection exhibit featuring works by Fred Herzog and dozens of other local photographers. In keeping with the theme, we decided to hold photo walks throughout Chinatown.

We had a great evening with folks from all over the city coming out to share photos, stories, and a shared history of Chinatown. Exploring an unfamiliar space with strangers might just be one of the best ways to get to know it. For more info and insight on this event, head over to Modo’s Tumblr post here.

This month, another exciting event is lined-up! Our Summer Field Trip is happening on Friday, August 16th from 6:00-9:00pm, at Jericho Park in the Picnic Area adjacent to the parking lot on Point Grey Road next to the pond. Eight classes (such as Bike Touring, Vibrant Movement, Beating Writers’ Block, Bike Maintenance, Volleyball Basics, Ultimate Frisbee, Urban Herbs and Edibles, and Introductory Spinning Poi) have been posted on the website, there are plenty of spots available so go ahead and register! There will be some snacks and refreshments available by small donation. Classes will happen rain or shine. We are definitely looking forward to this event and to seeing new and familiar faces of the Trade School Vancouver community.

Regular classes will start again in September and we are currently accepting class proposals for the fall until September 15th. If you, or someone you know, is interested in teaching a class, please fill out the form available here. We are quite amazed and grateful at the amount of support and interest in the sharing of knowledge and ideas in Vancouver and are looking forward to continuing this endeavor with more and more people. We believe that the passion for coming together and learning as a community is just one of the many things that make Vancouver truly awesome.
