If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap". In other words, this is a weekly series on things to do and places to go in Vancouver that fall into that magical category of being both cheap and awesome.

When was the last time you went to Ardene? If you're anything like me, probably it was when you were a pre-teen with a moderate allowance to burn on neon knee-highs. (Or, if you're actually like me, never, because you grew up in a town where Ardene didn't exist.) Well, it turns out that among the Hello Kitty purses, sparkly-striped socks, and rings that leave green marks on your fingers, they have some amazing deals on some very regular-type products. Socks for 5 for $10. Currently, their tights (including fleece-lined tights) are the same price, but the normal price is 2 for $10. Scarves and toques 3 for $15.

The pricing at Ardene also seems to be designed for bulk purchase. Buy a single pair of tights and you pay $7-8.50. Buy 5 and pay $10. This could be a dangerous encouragement towards hoarding, but I believe you can resist. The sales girl also told me that you can mix and match various products with the same price bundles, so you needn't be tied down.

One word of warning: the sizing does seem to be designed for a younger set, so don't feel bad about grabbing a larger size than you normally might.
