The Canada Is Awesome network has websites and social media extensions in Vancouver, Whistler, Calgary and Toronto, with many more on the horizon. Our goal is simple: we let people know about all of the awesome things that make their Canadian cities great, despite the bad. I'm the founder of this network and each week in this What's Awesome post I bring you the top stories from each of our properties, giving you access to the best of our content all in one place.

CALGARY

Cut Down Your Own Christmas Tree This Year

Up until two years ago I had no real interest in putting up a Christmas tree. The idea of heading to a big-box store to pick up a tree didn’t really do it for me. My opinion changed when a friend tipped me off to the process of heading out into the forest to find my own tree. If you are one of many Calgarians already planning on putting up a tree this holiday season, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this a try.

TORONTO

Rob Ford Soundboard uses Rob Ford quotes to make your own phrases and Samples

I couldn’t resist posting this Rob Ford Soundboard that is registered through Tucows domains and a downtown Toronto address.

VANCOUVER

A Good Book Drive: Robert Chaplin

To own a piece of Robert Chaplin’s art is to own a piece of Vancouver’s history. His Chinatown art studio humbly says as much, with a roof covered in his handiwork (his self-professed personal Sistine Chapel). A man of many crafts, Robert donated his collection of children’s books including a large print library edition of the famous Teeny Ted from Turnip Town, once featured in The Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest reproduction of a printed book ever published.

WHISTLER

Educating the Palate at Cornucopia Whistler

What tasting notes are you picking up? What is the nose giving you? What is the texture like? These are all questions that baffle many of us when it comes to wine. Truth be told, the wisest guidance I have been given by an expert is “if you like it, then drink it”.
