The “Adven-Tourist” and Your Chance at Winning $20,000

Since I started Vancouver Is Awesome 6 years ago I’ve headed up most of our travel features under the " Super, Neighbours in BC " category (a play on Tourism BC‘s old “Super, Natural” tagline complete with an intentionally awkward comma).

Since I started Vancouver Is Awesome 6 years ago I’ve headed up most of our travel features under the "Super, Neighbours in BC" category (a play on Tourism BC‘s old “Super, Natural” tagline complete with an intentionally awkward comma). In this series I visit places you can travel to in less than a half day from Vancouver, generally finding myself surrounded by trees and near – or preferably on – bodies of water. I’m outside, exploring our province in small planes and on big boats, taking advantage of the natural resources… and sometimes feasting on them!

In Scotiabank’s Around the World With $20K Contest, I’m what’s described as the “Adven-tourist”, one of four types of travellers that their American Express Gold card is designed for. We’ve partnered with them on a series of sponsored posts to get you to determine your traveller type and to encourage you to enter for a chance to win $20,000 to take you on the trip of a lifetime, in BC or wherever you please; with that travel budget you could pretty much go wherever you’d like and stay wherever you’d like no matter what type of travel you like to do.

Bodega Ridge Resort on Galiano Island is one of my favourite spots for “Adven-touring”!

The Scotiabank Gold American Express Card lets you earn points 4x faster at eligible gas stations, grocery stores and on dining and entertainment (and for all other retailers you still earn 1 point per $1). So let’s say you were embarking on the trip pictured in the above set of four photos, okay? If your journey begins with a ferry ride to Galiano Island – you could have a chance to earn points for the gas you put in your car, the snacks you buy along the way, and finally for your nightly rate renting out an entire 3-bedroom cabin at the resort. You wouldn’t get any points for chasing those geese into the fog though, and you wouldn’t get any for putting logs on the fire, but the food that you bought at the market and cooked in your little kitchen? Points for those for sure.
