#findyourfit in British Columbia's job market

Over the coming weeks we’re going to be taking a look at a number of different occupations in British Columbia. In a series of blog posts sponsored by WorkBC, we’ll be sharing just some of the many careers that have positions open in our province right now, and helping connect you to the tools that could help you get a fulfilling (and well paying!) occupation. With a projected one million new job openings in BC by the year 2020, 43% of which require skills training, it really is just a matter of finding your fit.

Today we’re looking at pipefitters, where jobs offer an average salary of around $60,000 per year. As the construction industry continues to experience rapid growth in BC in its commercial, industrial and residential sectors, more and more pipefitting positions are created – as well as a demand for skilled workers.

Like many of you, I’m not directly connected to this industry and the folks working in it are a bit of a hidden workforce to me. But you don’t have to look far in Vancouver to see projects that they’re working on. Next time you go outside, have a look at where all of those cranes are and you can be certain there are some of these guys working nearby. This video below takes a close look at exactly what pipefitters do, demystifying it and giving you a look into their work.
