Vancouver is giving us sunny skies for days this weekend, so make the most of our beautiful fall weather and take the kids to some of these awesome outdoor spots around our city that are fun, educational, and - gasp - free!

Lynn Canyon - this is a favourite spot for us as it has something for everyone and every ability. You can explore the kid-friendly hiking trails, experience the thrill of the shaky suspension bridge, and even jump into the emerald green swimming holes.

Capilano Fish Hatchery - my kids love the fish ladder at the hatchery where you can peer in at the fish that use the ladder to get around the dam. Learn about the life cycles of the fish in the area, tramp around the nearby trails filled with curious mushrooms, and marvel at the power of water as you walk over the dam within the regional park.

Ambleside Park - this is a good spot to spend a long day at with coffee shops nearby, outdoor tennis and basketball courts, and a dog-friendly park. The kids can play in the ocean water and you can drop a fishing line in while you both watch the boats sail by in the sun.

Southlands Heritage Farm - an urban farm minutes away from Kitsilano that is a delight from the moment you enter its gates. Its a regular stop for school field trips and boasts a community garden, a horse library, an outdoor kitchen, and animals to share your apples with. This Sunday happens to be the annual Country Fair, so slap on a cowboy hat and enjoy the country market, live cow milking, and pony rides!

Pacific Spirit National Park - located inside the University Endowment Lands, the park has a multitude of accessible hiking trails as well as a large variety of birds sheltered within its massive trees. You'll bump into a few birdwatchers, so either bring along a pair of binoculars or just stop and listen.
