The best British Columbia Kickstarter project ever is based out of Portland

As someone who spends quite a bit of time camping and fishing in the woods around the Lower Mainland and beyond I've recently found myself fascinated with the forestry industry and the reforestation industry that it stands on the shoulders of. So many of the roads that I've been bumping down (and documenting in our Toyota BC-sponsored On the Road To series) are dotted with swaths of recently harvested trees and I've been on the hunt for stories about the people involved. I have so many questions.

I couldn't believe my luck when I caught wind of the Kickstarter project that Nahanni Arntzen just launched out of Portland. Born in a teepee in a treeplanting camp in the 70's, her parents ran a reforestation business that was named after her. Most of her time spent in the camps her parents took her to are now warm and fuzzy memories of dogs, riding in the back of trucks, sleeping in tree boxes, stealing mouthfuls of icing while the cooks weren't looking, late night fires and early morning rain. She was hoping to share some of these memories with her own daughter a few years back which was when she realized her father was sitting on a trove of amazing photos from the early treeplanting days in our province. Nahanni started posting them to Instagram at @NahanniReforestation and she's now hoping to turn them into a book. The photos offer some great insight to a time and a place that few have seen, treeplanting is wonderful in general, and I hope that you'll pre-order a copy of this book to help bring it to life.

Watch this video below and be sure to read the words she's written about the project HERE.
