The Canada Is Awesome network has websites and social media extensions in Vancouver, Squamish, Calgary and Toronto, with many more on the horizon. Our goal is simple: we let people know about all of the awesome things that make their Canadian cities great, despite the bad. I'm the founder of this network and each week in this What's Awesome post I bring you the top stories from each of our properties, giving you access to the best of our content all in one place.

CALGARY

Eat local. Live local. Buy local.

Buy local.

That’s a term we’ve come to get used to, but back in the early 2000s it wasn’t so well-known.

“Back in 2006 there were certainly lots of great local businesses, but conversation around sustainability and the environment in the community really wasn’t where it’s at today,” says Stephanie Jackman.

SQUAMISH

Take a look at this new logo for Squamish

This week, Squamish unveiled a new logo and tagline: Hardwired for Adventure, as part of the Brand Enhancement Project, a community initiative that spanned over the past nine months. The logo represents Squamish’s past and future, our connection as a community to the nature that surrounds us.

TORONTO

Don’t go bacon my heart: Rashers

If there is one thing us Torontonians love, it is bacon and lots of it.  Back in 2012, on a busy strip of Leslieville – owner Richard Mulley decided to turn his love of bacon and sandwiches into the shop that we see today. That shop is Rashers (948 Queen Street East).

VANCOUVER

The best place to go camping in BC is within a couple hours of the city

In THIS STORY that The Province published about my experience with my 2014 Highlander Hybrid I was quoted as saying the thing is “a dream come true”. What I meant is that, yes, it’s crazy fuel efficient and comfortable and it fits my family to a tee but also that it takes me to places I physically couldn’t go in my last vehicle. Jones Lake outside of Chilliwack was previously a place that I often daydreamed about going to and would visit whenever I could borrow a vehicle with 4WD or All-Wheel-Drive. This summer I turned those daydreams into reality and visited the lake 7 times.
