Many of you have asked who’s behind those beautiful A Good Book Boxes, found at drop-off locations around Vancouver. We thought it high time to give you a sneak peek behind the scenes at the loving community who have come together to build these beautiful boxes.

Pictured here is Michael Cosman, the originator of the Good Book Boxes. He kindly donated his services so that you, dear reader, would have a beautiful space to drop off your beautiful books. Laser Cutter Cafe then jumped in to etch that eye-catching logo on the side of the box.

A year later, despite their creativity and smarts, founders Lizzy and Cory discovered they were still no good with a hammer and nails, so for a second time they turned to a team of Vancouver do-gooders and makers for a helping hand (and hammer). In 2013, Associated Labels donated their recovered skids and palates. These were then turned over to Kyle Ellis of Construction for Compassion, who came along with his magical tool set and broke the skids down into their gorgeous wooden pieces. Multifaceted handyman, baker, and store owner Lee Snelgar, of Nelson the Seagull, took this incredible recycled wood over to the MakerLabs studios and gave them new life.

This year, the team is building 20 new boxes that need homes in stores, offices, and schools. If you’d like to feature a beautiful box and receive donations, don’t be shy to tweet them @agoodbookdrive, find them on Facebook, or email them at agoodbookdrive [at] gmail [dot] com to get involved.

A Good Book Drive is an annual book drive to bring stories to a new generation of readers, and support kids in need of new books. Running through the month of November, A Good Book Drive will be inspiring Vancouverites to purchase a new copy of their favorite kids’ book and deliver it to set locations throughout the city. At these drop off locations you can personalize your donation with a special bookplate, sharing the story of why that book is special to you. All books will be donated to this year’s book drive recipient, One to One: A Children's Literacy Program. Share your favourite stories with A Good Book Drive on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
