A Good Book Drive: So long, and thanks for all the books!

We’re always a little sad to see the month of November go, and what a month it’s been. The third year of celebrating reading, community and connection in Vancouver and the first year we’ve opened up our Good Book Boxes to Brooklyn.

We’re always a little sad to see the month of November go, and what a month it’s been. The third year of celebrating reading, community and connection in Vancouver and the first year we’ve opened up our Good Book Boxes to Brooklyn. As the drive comes to a close, it’s time to offer some well-deserved thanks to the community who made this all happen.

With overwhelming gratitude, we want to thank the incredible local businesses who hosted Good Book Boxes and who, over their own volition, offered special treats, deals, and steals to book contributors.

To all you lovely, smiley Good Book Backers who generously loaded your arms with so many books and so much love, thank you for sharing your stories with us and supporting a new generation of young readers who, we hope, will grow up to be just like you.

And for a moment, we’d like to flip the view behind the scenes to thank our dedicated volunteers, who’ve taken time out of life and work to support A Good Book Drive with their energy, passion, and talents. These special people include photographers Amanda Lee Smith and Rachel Pick, writer Lima Al-Azzeh, and our first international recruit, Marco Garcia, who single-handedly headed up the Brooklyn initiative.

Of course, closing out this month of stories wouldn’t be the same without thanking the founders of this inspiring initiative - Cory Ashworth and Lizzy Karp.

We can’t wait to count up all the books and deliver them to the One-to-One Literacy Program for future readers to enjoy. We’ll be sharing some more stories over the next week, so be sure to come back and relish in the book love.

What can we say? You’re in our good books. See you next year.

A Good Book Drive is an annual book drive to bring stories to a new generation of readers, and support kids in need of new books. Running through the month of November, A Good Book Drive will be inspiring Vancouverites to purchase a new copy of their favorite kids’ book and deliver it to set locations throughout the city. At these drop off locations you can personalize your donation with a special bookplate, sharing the story of why that book is special to you. All books will be donated to this year’s book drive recipient, One to One: A Children’s Literacy Program. Share your favourite stories with A Good Book Drive onTwitter, Facebook and Instagram.
