I found out today that our friend, the legendary Vancouver interviewer/broadcaster Nardwuar, suffered a stroke at the Mint Records Christmas party at the Astoria this past Saturday. Not much more is known beyond the fact that he's getting better, so much so that he's apparently editing and POSTING interviews from his hospital bed. Below is the Instagram post sent out to his account today.
You might know Nardwuar the Human Serviette from his CiTR radio show he's been doing for almost 30 years. Or perhaps from MuchMusic when he was doing interviews for Going Coastal (his Henry Rollins one was THE BEST THING EVER). Maybe you're a fan of his band, The Evaporators. Or maybe you're familiar with his recent work where he's interviewed pretty much every influential hip hop artist alive today and uploaded it to his immensely popular Youtube channel. Nas, Jay-Z, Drake, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell... the list goes on and crosses almost every musical genre (HERE are some posts he's made sharing them on V.I.A.).
As coincidence would have it his Christmas card just arrived at our office today, and is sitting front and centre on my desk. If there's one thing I know about the guy it's that he's full of energy and positivity and that he won't be stopped, and I'm putting positive thoughts out there for him today, and until I hear he's left the hospital and is back in business. I hope that you will too.
