I bumped into longtime V.I.A. contributor Nardwuar over the weekend (at the Rennie Collection opening reception on Saturday night) and was so psyched to see him out and about! He's been recovering from the stroke he had back in December and it was the first I'd actually talked to him. I knew he was healing but I had a fear (for us who love his interviews and for him as a human being who does what he loves) that he had a long ways to go to getting back to his old self, and that he might never get back to doing the amazing interviews we've come to know him for. I'm happy to report that he told me that he's been slowly getting back into interviewing people but he has a ways to go until he's 100%. He also mentioned that he was having heart surgery today (!) to repair what he described as a hole in his heart, and I'm also quite happy to report that he's doing well after the procedure!
The last thing he told me on Saturday was that I should look up the procedure he was about to get on Youtube, but I didn't do it because I'm not too interested in watching surgeries (as in, they make me queasy and I avoid them at all costs). He just tweeted this one out though, along with a photo of himself with his doctor at VGH, not long after completing the surgery. Have a look, it's actually not a real surgery but an animated look at one.
Here's to a full recovery for Canada's best interviewer! Doot doola doot doo...
