This #ArtistAtHome is C.R. Avery. If you don't know him, you should. He is an Outlaw Hip-Hop Harmonica Player, Beatbox Poet, Punk Piano Player, String Quartet Raconteur, Rock n' Roll Matador, and Playwright. He has toured relentlessly across North America, Europe and Australia, but keeps East Vancouver strong in his heart.
CR simultaneously beatboxes, sings, plays harmonica and keyboard guitar (keytar). In addition to his 17 albums, he has written and directed three musicals that have been produced in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco. He is one of my favourite live performers, and many times my face has hurt from smiling at his often outrageous performances, which at times incorporate some of Vancouver's finest burlesque dancers including Melody Mangler and Lola Frost.

As this was one of the earlier photos in my #ArtistAtHome project, it wasn't yet written in stone that every photo shoot would take place at the artist's home. The original location was to be an eclectic downtown bookstore, but in retrospect, it was fortuitous that the timing didn't work out for this location, and we decided to shoot at his apartment instead, thus cementing the notion that this portrait series should remain focused "At Home".
