Casey-Jo Loos

The Happy Question Time: Casey-Jo Loos.

Vancouver is home to some of the most creative, adventurous, and awesome people in the country, and Casey-Jo Loos is no exception. As 102.7 The Peak’s DJ from 2-6 Monday to Friday, this Vancouver Island gal (she calls the town of Cedar home) is the epitome of chill, adventurous, and loving. Her bright personality and love for life make her instantly warm and charming, traits that every Peak listener, friend, co-worker, and interviewee love her for. Plus, she has hair to die for yet never brags about it. This girl is humble!
Never one to shy away from adventure, Casey-Jo took the time to answer some questions about life, work, Vancouver, music, and which ice-cream flavour best represents her.

As a DJ at one of the most awesome radio stations in Vancouver, The Peak 102.7, what is the thing you love most about your job?

The thing I love the most is connecting with people everywhere, playing awesome music, and making listeners think, feel inspired, or laugh. It’s a pleasure to be able to hang out and have fun every day as a “job.” On a personal note, I absolutely love when bands come in for intimate shows or performances in our peak lounge because it’s the best way to enjoy live music, which is one of my favourite things in life.

What are three things that you would like for people to know about you right away?

1. I believe that we’re all the same.
2. Yes, my real name is Casey-Jo.
3. No, I can’t get you tickets to whatever rock show or concert you’re wanting to go to (ok ok, SOMEtimes. I mean, if you win them through The Peak).

What is your favourite thing about the city?

My favourite thing about the city is whether it’s a gorgeous day full of sunshine and warmth at kits beach, or a soggy stormy afternoon in Stanley Park, I find myself in awe of the constant beauty we’re surrounded by here. We have everything in this city, and amazing people can’t help but be drawn to live here. Yes it’s expensive, next topic. Oh right, I was bragging how Vancouver is the absolute best, which is also another stereotypical Vancouverite thing to do (I know) but so necessary.

What are the top five things that are most important in your life?

1. Love
2. Adventure
3. Music
4. Community
5. Heart-shaped rocks… heart-shaped anything

What usually takes up your free time?

I spend a lot of time reading, searching for content, creating content, writing, listening to music, going to community events, experiencing live music, and attempting to keep my head and my heart ahead of the rest. When I have free time it is very important for me to revive my energy, keep the light burning softly, and to fill my love cup. I like to do that by getting out in nature and finding or creating adventure.

If you could tell the younger you one piece if advice, what would it be?

The heart never breaks, only the ego can really break. Spend as much time, energy, and money as necessary to heal all of your wounds so your ego never breaks and you can become an emotionally stable human as soon as possible. The only constant is change, and while you can’t necessarily control many things, you can control how you respond to life and how you think and view what happened. You’re not a victim, and life is not out to get you. Never lose your spark, curiosity, and all the things that make you, you. Don’t let them chop off all your hair on that reality show and don’t let them touch your eyebrows; they’ll ruin them forever. Know yourself.

If you could choose a mantra for the world, what would it be?

Love all ways, always.

If you could be any ice cream flavour, which one would you be? Why?

I’d be chocolate chip mint because that stuff is the best! First it hits you with the mint and you’re like “Whoaaa smooth AND fresh.” Then WHAMMO! Some sultry little chocolate nuggets to explode all over your taste buds with you being all like, “Wow, I didn’t even know that I wanted that!”

As a curator of cool at 102.7 The Peak (I’m sure that’s what your job title is), what are your current music recommendations to new listeners?

Aidan Knight, ‘Each Other”. It’s a new one, just released, and a necessary soundtrack to anyone’s life who likes to feel.

Bob Moses, ‘Tearing Me Up’. This is gonna be the biggest song of Summer 2016, so get it now. And they’re originally from Vancouver!

Other full album loves and current crushes are:
Mutemath – Vitals
Tame Impala – Currents
Oh Wonder – Oh Wonder

What is your dream vacation?

I’ve always wanted to go to Amsterdam, or anywhere in Holland. Besides being a really fun last name to make fun of, “Loos” is a Dutch name, which means I would eat chocolate initials of my first name as a child at Christmas time. A lot of my extended family that I’ve never met live there, so somehow I’d like to hunt them down (nicely) and meet them all! I once met some Dutch relatives when I was on the island, and it was one of the few times I thought, “Yes! I’m accepted in a family, these are my people.
