Vancouver's dedicated children's bookstore, Kidsbooks has been sharing the magic of reading for over thirty years. For many Vancouverites this charming bookstore has become a much-loved family tradition.

The store was founded in 1983 by former librarian, Phyllis Simon who wanted to share her love of children's literature. Instantly a neighbourhood success, the store soon began to draw customers from across the city and in 1987 moved to it's flagship Kitsilano location at West Broadway and Balaclava Street. Business partner, Kelly McKinnon, joined in 1990 and together they opened Kidsbook's second location in North Vancouver's Edgemont Village.

In 2015 the flagship Kitsilano location was forced to look for a new home after it was announced that their lease would not be renewed as the building was to be demolished. Luckily, a larger retail space just four blocks away became available and the store has excitedly now opened at their new location at 2557 West Broadway.
Even in today's electronic world, this iconic bookstore is a must visit for children of all ages. Each age group has a specially dedicated area including the baby section, preschool/primary, middle grade and teens. There is also an activity and fun section where puzzles, skipping ropes, colouring books and board games can be found. Friendly staff will happily help find the right book for any child and best-sellers are highlighted for every age group.
Kidsbooks is also known for their fabulous and elaborate window displays. The most famous being the 'Hogwarts" storefront specially designed for the release of the fourth book from the series. Kidsbooks was actually the first store in Canada to carry the Harry Potter series beginning in 1998.
