Today's #ArtistAtHome is one of the most powerfully energetic musicians in Vancouver. Daniel Moxon of the prog-rock band Bend Sinister can really rock the house with his piano and vocals! If you have ever had the pleasure of seeing him perform you will know what I mean. One my favourite memories of Dan performing was at last years SingItFWD fundraising gala, when he sang parts of Queen's 'Somebody to Love' on a stage crowded with amazing singers and practically stole the show.

Dan grew up in Kelowna, BC and moved to Vancouver in 2000 to study film at Simon Fraser University. That year also marked the genesis of Bend Sinister. After graduation, he began to score and compose for short films and other projects and got hired in the Media Design department at SFU, becoming the resident composer for all of their projects. Two of these feature documentaries ‘FROM THE HEART’ and ‘THE FRASER RIVER JOURNEY’ aired on CBC and The Knowledge Network. He went on to win a Leo in 2012 for his work on Carl Bessai's 'SISTERS AND BROTHERS'.

In 2009, the band won a Music BC contest with a 50,000 prize. They headed East to Toronto in 2010, where they toured non-stop their latest release SPRING ROMANCE. Their single ‘THINGS WILL GET BETTER’ made the CBC’s TOP 10 songs list.

When I arrived for my visit at his place, Dan was in the middle of the colossal job of digitizing over 500 CD's into his iTunes and as he put it, that only comprised his favourites or rare releases. He later told me that he took them all down to Audiophile on Commercial Drive and got $500 for the lot of the them!

When asked about the some best and worst moments of life on the road in a touring band Dan said "The worst is a tie between hitting a moose on the highway and blowing out a transmission." The best thing was getting to perform solo versions of Rush songs to Rush at a small private event, where Rush was being inducted into the Hall of Fame. The performances also included a meet and greet with the guys in the band.

As you can tell from his decor, Dan has got some fine taste in furniture. Incidentally, he has turned this into a fun side business called Dan's Vintage Finds, which has him indulging in his hobby of going to thrift stores, bargain hunting for fine furniture and reselling it.

Bend Sinister just finished recording some new tracks, so look for them out this Summer. If you haven't seen Bend Sinister play live you can have your chance on April 22 when they headline The Biltmore Cabaret in Vancouver.

Many thanks to Dan for a fine visit! Check out some Bend Sinister on their site.
