This gentleman is a without a doubt a Vancouver institution and respected by all. He is a killer blues, honky tonk, rock n' roller whether he is playing by himself or his bands the Evil Doers or The Blue Rich Rangers. This is Rich Hope and I am super stoked to have him in #artistathome.

He is actually one of the first performers I photographed live, and I have shot him playing shows for several years, from venues such as The Railway Club to The Squamish Valley Music Festival. He is an incredible performer and he always destroys the house. Last year a highlight for Rich was opening up for for Bob Seger at Rogers Arena, and when I asked him if he "went out big" he said "yeah – we punched them in the face !"

Despite the fact that Rich and I have known each other for a few years, we've rarely had a chance to sit down and talk, as most of the times I've seen him it's before he goes onstage or just after a show. It was a real treat to chat with him while he threw on ‘The Black Gladiator’ by Bo Diddley on vinyl.

As circumstances would have it Rich had lent out the only guitar he keeps in his home to a friend who wanted it for a recording session. In order to get one for our shoot we had to hop in his car and go to his jam space to get one. He likes to play loud and draws inspiration from that so he prefers to practice in his jam space and focus on his family life while at home.

Rich has got a new album coming out soon and will be headlining The Cobalt on May 28th. Be sure to check out his website to listen to his music and more upcoming show dates.

Many thanks to Rich, a super guy and his wife Niki for opening their lovely home to me.
