This weekend, live music, technology, and film will be mixed, blended and turned into something entirely original at the new @VIFF Hub. As part of the festival’s “film plus” model, renowned artists and performers are getting together for one-off collaborations that will push the boundaries of their respective fields. This is bound to be one of the most exciting weekends in the city for some while, so don’t miss out!

TONIGHT! – September 30: Violent: Live Soundtrack feat. We Are the City + Amazing Factory

Watch the celebrated local band score scenes from their award-winning film, Violent live off the floor! This unique event will feature ambient music paired with visuals inspired and influenced by Slow TV, a visual phenomenon with Scandinavian origins. The Violent Original Soundtrack won Best Musical Score at the 2015 Leo Awards while Canadian music authority, Exclaim gave We Are The City’s new album, Above Club a 9/10, stating, “this is the band at their most mature, challenging listeners like never before and leaving an unshakeable impression as a result.”

Saturday – October 1: HUMANS with visuals by Genki Nishida powered by Generate

Electronic favorites HUMANS take over VIFF Hub for a rare intimate performance accompanied by Genki Nishida’s astonishing technologically driven visuals. The visual component will be powered by Generate - an app that produces images, filters and visual effects that respond to live music.

Sunday – October 2: Industry Exchange Party featuring DJ Rhiannon

Sunday evening will feature a very special screening of “Rock The Box” directed by local film critic Katherine Monk. The film documents the life and career of DJ Rhiannon while addressing issues of feminism in the male-dominated world of EDM. The evening will also serve as the film festival’s Industry Exchange and feature a very special set by DJ Rhiannon!
