3 Apps We Wish Existed

It seems like every week there’s a new app that’s going viral.

It seems like every week there’s a new app that’s going viral. Why is it that the more people tell us that we have to download them, the less willing we are to give them a shot? Maybe it’s because even though every app promises to make life more fun, interesting or simple, they never really seem to solve any real problems. Below are a few apps that might actually make a difference in the world. We'd be more than willing to shell out 99 cents for  these...

1.

Think of how much time you’d save if you could skip reading the book and the movie?Think of how much time you’d save if you could skip reading the book and the movie?

2.

No one likes working out. Your friends that say they do are liars. No one likes working out. Your friends that say they do are liars.

3.

Because sometimes we need a reminder of how far we’ve come.Because sometimes we need a reminder of how far we’ve come.

So even though none of these apps are real, they certainly could be!

This Sunday, Vancouver will have its first ever Comedy Hack Day, a software competition where local app developers and comedians come together to make new, ridiculous and completely hilarious apps within a 24 - 48 hour time period. Comedy “hackathons” in other cities have already produced some gems like Timesify, an app that disguises your online tabloid sites as New York Times articles, or Eqipay, a math app that pulls data from Bureau of Labor Statistics, allowing you and your friends to split the cost of a meal in accordance to gender and racial income inequalities.

CHD2016-528The weekend will culminate with an incredible comedy show at The Media Club where the best teams will present and demo their new creations to a panel of judges. Winners will be crowned, drinks will be poured and we'll all be reminded that these apps will have no bearing on the world whatsoever… But they’re sure make us laugh!

For more information, visit the Comedy Hack website HERE or buy tickets to the finals HERE.

What: Comedy Hack Day Vancouver Finals

Where: The Media Club (695 Cambie St, Vancouver, BC)

When: Nov 6, 2016, 7:30PM

Just as TechCrunch Disrupt's product demos offer a glimpse into the future of technology, this show doesn't do that at all. At Comedy Hack Day YVR's Finals, five teams of comedians and developers will present tech demos that—while totally real and functional—won't change this or any other world. Comedian judges grill each team with questions and ultimately decide who wins the grand prize of $0 dollars in angel investment.
