Pope John Paul II
The first Pope to visit Vancouver. Judging by the crowds who came to see him, it was well worth the trip. Years later, in recognition of his historic visit and his beatification by the Catholic Church, Mayor Gregor Robertson declared May 1, 2011, to be “Blessed John Paul II Day in Vancouver.”
