Happyland Giant Dipper

Nearly a mile long, and so thrilling that the future King Edward VIII thundered down its tracks twice during a visit in 1927, the Happyland Giant Dipper was nevertheless demolished in 1948 to make room for an extension of the Hastings Racetrack. Children were saddened by the news, the Vancouver Province noted. But the odds were that some adults rejoiced at the thought of the following season’s betting.
