Hello! My name’s James Ryan and I’m the director of Flights, a web series focused on BC’s booming craft beer scene. Last season we visited six different breweries across the lower mainland. With each episode we learned more about craft brewing while meeting the talented and passionate people behind each beer. After a few months off, it’s great to be releasing new episodes, sharing new stories, and continuing to explore BC’s unique craft beer industry.
Trading Post Brewing Company was an easy choice for starting season two. A new but flourishing brewery, the first in Langley, Trading Post captured the spirit of craft brewing with their love for the local community. Lance Verhoeff, an energetic entrepreneur and Tony Dewald, a craft brewing legend, may seem like opposites, but their energy and excitement comes together in their truly excellent beer. Together, their passion has helped create a thriving brewery worth the trip to Langley.
For season two, we tried to really diversify the breweries we featured. This meant exploring a couple of the biggest craft breweries in the province as well as some unique gems like Callister, a “co-working brewery” that gives brewers a chance to practice their craft and fine tune recipes while also working on building their brands. We also had the opportunity to shoot an episode at the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Brewing and Brewery Operations Program where we met the next generation of talented young brewers. What we discovered along the way were so many examples of the diversity and creativity that makes this industry so awesome.
