TONIGHT: Celebrating Ramadan by Supporting Vancouver’s DTES

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating as a form of worship.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating as a form of worship. This is a month of generosity, charity, and community for Muslims, which is exactly why this Muslim youth group has decided to break their fast by sharing and preparing a meal for the residents of Vancouver’s DTES.

Vancouver Madinah is a youth-led organization that empowers youth while advocating for inclusivity and unity. This Ramadan, their aim is to bring together Muslims and non-Muslims to partake in a joint celebration. There is goal is to feed about 70 people.

“An integral part of Islam is spreading the love and helping those who may not have the same means. And Ramadan is a time of giving and generosity. It is a time when Muslims compete with each other to do good in their community and renew their intentions of being better citizens. With feelings of blessings and joy in the air, we want to play our part in feeding our neighbors who may be hungry— we want to share some food with people in our city.”

The event is tonight, but Vancouver Madinah is still welcoming volunteers to take part.
