Opening one business is tough enough, but many of Vancouver’s budding young entrepreneurs have decided to up their retail game by also slinging some of the best americanos in town. Get your caffeine fix and new shoes/antiques and camera film all in one go, with one of these fantastic double-duty shops and cafés.
1. Push Pull Café (136 E Hastings St)
A tiny, minimalist café tucked away in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Push Pull Café serves great coffee but also services Vancouver film photography community. Browse vintage cameras, buy some new film and be sure to ask about their framing services. This space is also home to Faulkner and Co., a vintage clothing store that's curated an excellent selection of high-fashion pieces and vintage gems.
2. Space Lab / Aubade (230 E Pender)
While Space Lab is Vancouver’s premiere destination for vintage rarities, custom furniture, and oddball antiques (not to mention a barber shop in the back), Aubade is a high-end mini café serving perfect pourover’s, aeropress and espresso. Where else can you find a vintage quilt while also sipping on a double espresso?
3. Revolver (325 Cambie St)
Technically speaking, this might be more of a café that doubles as a store. Either way, Revolver is all about coffee! While one side of their space operates as a full-fledged coffee bar, the other side is a dedicated shop for coffee accessories. Grab a new Chemex, some filters, a hand grinder or whatever else you need to get your morning espresso on-point.
4. Birds & the Beets (55 Powell St)
Birds & the Beets could have earned a spot on this list for their gorgeous flower bouquets, alone, so we’ll give them earn extra points for becoming Juice Bar, a natural wine pop-up and tapas bar at night. Just when we think we couldn’t love Birds & the Beets more, they offer us wine. Mmm.
5. Harrison Galleries (901 Homer St)
Downtown Vancouver’s Harrison Galleries is also home to the Buzz Café & Espresso Bar. Sip, study or relax amongst collections of fine art.
6. Str/ke Mvmnt (299 Columbia St)
Minimal, practical and essential. That’s how we think of our coffee, but the same could be said for Str/ke Mvmnt’s excellent athletic apparel and footwear. Be sure to visit them in their beautiful space just on the edge of Gastown.
7. Goodge Place (1523 W 8th Ave)
Extraordinary gifts, housewares, plants and, you guessed it… coffee! Goodge’s design driven selection of boutique brands is the perfect place to browse while enjoying a cappuccino or two.
8. The Shop Vancouver (432 Columbia St)
Motorcycle goods? Check. High-end luxury apparel? Check. Great coffee? You bet. The Shop is your one stop… shop, for selvedge denim, leather and caffeine. All the essentials!
9. Half Fool (18 E Pender St)
Their sign says juice and smoothies but Half Fool is all about trendy décor, gifts, home goods, vintage clothes and of course, great coffee. Visit them at their sleek, location in Chinatown, right near the Classical Chinese Gardens.
