Teenager has Mercedes impounded after clocking in at twice the speed limit

A young Delta driver has had his luxury ride impounded and is facing a speeding ticket worth almost $500 after being clocked by West Vancouver police zooming at 175 kilometres per hour in a 90 km/h highway zone.

A police officer spotted a Mercedes C250 racing by at almost twice the posted speed limit near the Cypress Bowl exit of Highway 1 shortly after midnight Sept. 29, said Const. Jeff Wood, spokesman for the West Vancouver Police Department.

The 19-year-old driver was handed a $483 ticket for excessive speeding and had his car impounded for seven days.

The man is the latest of several drivers nabbed with lead foots in the municipality.

Another 18-year-old from Delta was recently caught going 160 km/h on the Upper Levels Highway in a family member’s Hyundai Elantra. That car was also impounded.

A 22-year-old West Vancouver Ferrari driver caught doing 210 km/h on the Lions Gate Bridge also had his car impounded and is due in court next month.

More than 145 speeders have had their rides impounded by police in West Vancouver this year so far.
