Hungry for a 36" seafood roll? This 'Monster' food challenge is for you.

Food challenges are having a real moment in Vancouver right now.

Food challenges are having a real moment in Vancouver right now, and there's a brand new one launching this November that may have some seafood fans donning their stretchy pants.

The Holy Crab, the seafood restaurant that opened earlier this year on Robson, is a great destination for delicious seafood rolls. Now they've launched their Monster Roll Challenge, and it's not for the faint of heart, because hot damn this one is pretty intense.

Fortunately you don't have to go it alone.

The premise of the challenge is that two participants sit down to demolish one-half each of a 36-inch super stuffed and sauced up seafood roll as fast as possible.

The Monster Roll is a serious seafood feast, and it's $75. It's filled with shrimp, crab, fish fingers, calamari, soft shell crab, bell peppers, onion, garlic, cajun sauce, and mayo. You can request your choice of Mild, Medium, Spicy, or Holy Moly spice-level.

Each of the two eaters must finish their half for it to be a valid entry, and you can't help each other eat. Names and times go up on the leaderboard, and the fastest time clocked during the contest, which runs all November, will net its eaters a $300 Holy Crab gift card, and some serious bragging rights.

Now, if you and your hungry homey can finish the Monster Roll in less than 5 minutes, the roll is free, and you get a $25 gift card to come back to the Holy Crab (probably to eat like a more normal-sized meal). But if you think if it, that's kind of like getting paid to eat a lot. Really fast.

As a nice bonus, The Holy Crab will provide unlimited water or soda to the Monster Challenge participants while they're eating to beat the clock.

The Holy Crab says they'll make only five Monster Rolls per day, and they are available during regular restaurant hours on a "first-come, first-served" basis.
