Burnaby RCMP and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) are investigating Burnaby’s first homicide of the year.

On Tuesday night, just before 9 p.m., Mounties were called to the 6500 block of Telford Avenue to a two-storey walk-up after a report of a “fight in progress,” according to a Burnaby RCMP press release.

Police found a man in medical distress. Despite attempts to revive him, he succumbed to his injuries.

“It is early in the investigation but it does not appear to be a random act,” states the release.

The scene will be cordoned off for a “significant amount of time,” according to police.

The incident is currently in the evidence-gathering phase and no further details will be provided at this time.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. For those wishing to stay anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
