Telus Corporation (TSX: T) has secured a deal with telecom rival Bell Canada for AlarmForce Industries Inc.’s operations in Western Canada.
The Vancouver-based company announced Friday (January 5) it is paying $66.5 million for the security company’s assets and its 39,000 customers in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Bell Canada’s parent company, BCE Inc. (TSX: BCE), announced in November its acquisition of AlarmForce.
Bell closed its $182-million deal on the same day Telus announced it would assume control of the security firm’s Western Canadian operations.
Telus said in a release the $66.5-million price tag for the company represents a “proportionate share of the value of the Bell transaction.”
Both companies said the acquisition of AlarmForce fits into their own respective connected home strategies.
Connected homes or smart homes refer to technology and computer networks within a home that helps automate everyday tasks involving anything from appliances to heating and ventilation.
Telus said the AlarmForce acquisition gives the company an opportunity to use its fibre and wireless networks to enhance connected home and security services for its customers.
