As of today, gas prices in Metro Vancouver regions are hiking close to $1.50 per litre. The spiking of the gas price is due to a temporary shutdown of two refineries that supply gas in B.C., leading to a supply shortage.

One gas station shut down temporarily for maintenance is Parkland Fuel Corp. refinery in Burnaby.

“One of the reasons you’re paying $1.48 per litre has everything to do with the fact that Parkland’s closed down right now,” said Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.

The planned shutdown started about three weeks ago and was expected to last to the beginning of March, McTeague said.

Currently the lowest price in Vancouver ranges averages around $1.47, according to GasBuddy.

GasBuddy predicted earlier this year that the price in February and March will be around $1.15 in Canada. But now we are seeing the price close to $1.50 across Metro Vancouver.
