Two pipeline protesters have been arrested in two days outside of the Kinder Morgan tank farm on Burnaby Mountain, and more arrests are anticipated by the group.
Burnaby RCMP was called to the tank farm in the 7000 block of Bayview Drive at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning after reports demonstrators were blocking vehicles from getting into the terminal.
“Throughout the morning, Burnaby RCMP officers asked the demonstrators to move off of the road and all but one of them complied,” states an RCMP press release. “Despite numerous requests, a 47-year-old female allegedly refused to move from the road and was arrested for mischief just before 10:30 a.m.”
Protesters are trying to prevent Kinder Morgan from removing trees from the site and so prevent the company from drilling through the mountain, according to a media advisory from the group.
On Monday, a 25-year-old man was arrested for mischief after climbing atop a loaded semi-trailer and briefly evading police by running along on top of it.
A major protest against the proposed twinning of Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline, which carries diluted bitumen from Alberta’s oil sands to Burnaby, is planned for March 10.
