Man lights Commercial Drive McDonald’s, and himself, on fire

A man in his 30s is in hospital with serious burns this morning after entering the Mcdonald’s at Commercial and Broadway carrying a gas can threatening to harm himself.

Police negotiated with the man who spread gasoline around the restaurant before lighting a cigarette, himself, and the restaurant, on fire.

Non-lethal arwen rounds were then used on him as he was doused by Vancouver Fire and Rescue with a high pressure water hose.

The Independent Investigations Office is now investigating the incident.
