Said The Whale playlist celebrates Vancouver's AWESOME music scene

With @TheJUNOAwards coming to town next week, we thought it would be good timing to share a playlist of our fav Vancouver bands.

Local indie-pop band Said The Whale just released an absolutely killer playlist comprised entirely of local music. In addition to featuring local favourites (Japandroids, We Are The City, Dear Rouge), the playlist also showcases a ton of lesser-known gems like Devours, Blue J and Jo Passed (who just signed to legendary Seattle record label, Sub Pop). Of course, there's so much more local music to be discovered, so be sure to check back on the playlist for updates.

While the playlist is ultimately a celebration of local creativity, its release comes at an interesting time; the upcoming JUNO awards have raised a lot of questions about Vancouver's potential to become a "music city" in the vein of Toronto or Montreal.

In 2017, the province welcomed the B.C. Music Fund, a $15 million grant program administered by Creative BC to support the economic development of B.C.'s music industry and creative economy. Ontario welcomed a similar fund prior, which also supports live music, music recording and music companies. Currently, there has not been an official decision regarding renewing the B.C. Music Fund for 2019.

Anyway, you can stream the entire playlist HERE. Enjoy!
