Vancouver Airport Authority is seeking the public’s feedback as it prepares an updated noise management plan.

In 2017, Vancouver International Airport served 24.2 million passengers in 2017 and expects to serve 29 million passengers in 2020. As this increased traffic is expected and the airport’s current noise management plan expires this year, the airport authority is in the process of creating its 2019-2023 plan. With that, the airport has released a community questionnaire to collect public input on several components of the plan.

Questions on the survey include whether or not aircraft noise has been an annoyance and how often, as well as what noise-related information would be helpful to the public.

“Effective long-term planning is essential to YVR’s future. As we work to develop the new Noise Management Plan, we are committed to engaging all stakeholders,” said a YVR statement. “We want to ensure the actions and areas of work identified can be undertaken in a sustainable manner and approached objectively, accounting for all points of view.”

After compiling feedback and suggestions, YVR staff will review them based on their impact on safety, impact on airport or aircraft operations, effects on emissions, cost ,noise impact, current capacity and the airport’s mandate to provide 24-hour air service for the region.
