The great blue herons living in Stanley Park have laid the first few eggs of the season just in time for Easter Monday:

The eggs are incubated for 28 days and once the babies are born their parents will have to protect them from predators such as owls, raccoons and bald eagles.
Great blue herons are classified as a species at risk in B.C. and one third of the total population lives around the Salish Sea.
The birds weigh between five and six pounds and can live for up to 17 years.
