A second anti-pipeline protester has been charged with assault for allegedly pushing and pulling at a Burnaby RCMP officer while he was trying to arrest another demonstrator for mischief last month.

Corey Skinner, 29, was arrested Thursday afternoon on Underhill Avenue and faces charges of obstructing and assaulting a police officer in connection with an incident on March 25.

Police had been called to the 8000 block of Shellmont Street outside of the Kinder Morgan Burnaby Mountain tank farm at about 6 p.m.

On arrival, officers found a man who had allegedly removed a survey marker.

A Mountie went to arrest the man, but the man resisted, according to police, and a number of demonstrators from nearby Camp Cloud then rushed in and obstructed the officer, allowing the suspect to flee.

The officer eventually caught the man and arrested him.

Skinner allegedly pushed and pulled at the Mountie during the incident, according to Burnaby RCMP.

Last Friday, 30 people crowded into the Burnaby RCMP detachment to protest the arrest of another man, 31-year-old Harry Johnson-Larue, who has also been charged with assault in relation to the incident.

Skinner, meanwhile, also faces additional mischief and obstruction charges related to an incident on Jan. 8, when police say he allegedly caused damage to the air braking system of a semi-truck stopped outside of the Kinder Morgan tank farm on Shellmont Avenue.

“Once informed he was under arrest for mischief, Skinner is alleged to have obstructed police and fled the scene,” states an RCMP press release.

Skinner remains in custody, according to police.
