A 76-year-old Richmond woman was struck by an SUV near Blundell Road and No. 3 Road Tuesday afternoon.

Mounties responded to a call around 4:30 p.m. after the woman was hit by an 84-year-old male driver from Richmond.

The victim was taken to hospital with extensive injuries and is currently in stable condition. The driver was shaken and has been cooperating with police.

"This area had a fair amount of traffic congestion at the time, which was around 4:30 pm. We have largely eliminated speed or alcohol as factors in this collision. We are investigating all factors and that also includes pedestrian crossing behaviour," said Cpl. Dennis Hwang in a statement.

"Even with additional daylight visibility, we remind all road users to exercise caution whenever they are on the road and obey all traffic laws. Be defensive and pause before taking unnecessary chances.”

The investigation is currently still ongoing and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is assisting Richmond RCMP.
