There's a free Brunello wine tasting happening this Saturday in Vancouver

Q: Is there, in this wide world, anything that is not drastically improved by adding Brunello to it? A: Yes, Cheerios. That’d be weird. Everything else is awesome, though, I checked.

The Everything Wine in River District (the new neighborhood in southeast Vancouver) is holding a wine event this Saturday, April 21st   from 2pm to 6pm. It’s a free, walk-around tasting called Brunellopolis (that’s Fancy-Pants for “Brunello Town”), ‘cause that’s what they’re turning their store into. 8 different Brunellos, heaps of meat and cheese, and a somewhat contagious sense that everything is going to be ok (Brunello does this).

Brunello di Montalcino is, of course, that magical wine from the hilltop town of Montalcino, south of Florence in Tuscany. The town looks majestically like it was built to withstand dragon attacks, but it’s the vineyards below that make magic sauce out of the humble Sangiovese grape. There isn’t a lot of Brunello in the world - Montalcino is a pretty small place – so tastings are rare and free tastings rarer still.

With a focus on the much heralded 2012 vintage, the line-up is:

Terralsole 2010 $89.99 (94 Wine Spectator)

Podere La Vigna 2012 $59.99 (94 James Suckling)

Il Poggione 2012 $87.99 (95 Robert Parker)

Canalicchio di Sopra 2012 $83.99 (96 Wine Spectator)

Collemattoni 2012 $67.49 (96 Wine Spectator)

San Filippo 2012 $99.99 (95 Wine Spectator)

Uccelliera 2012 $92.99 (95 Robert Parker)

Lisini 2012 $99.99 (94 Wine Spectator)

No tickets are need for the event, it’s a drop-in tasting inside the store. Much awesomeness will logically follow.
