"Simulated injuries and simulated gunfire" planned for Stanley Park by VPD today, don't freak out

"Simulated injuries and simulated gunfire" are on the agenda.

The area where they're doing training is the HMCS Discovery naval base on Deadman's Island, which has a storied past.

Once a Squamish Nation tree-burial cemetery, back in 1899 a business owner planned to build a sawmill on it. The mayor had other plans for the island, saying that it was a part of the park and that construction would not be permitted. He warned that a contingent of police would arrest the man and his workers should they start work, and threatened that “violence will be used.”
