Vancouver police are looking for witnesses and any dash cam video after a crash on Granville Street Wednesday morning.

At around 9 a.m. Wednesday a black BMW sedan and a grey Toyota Corolla left the area of King Edward Avenue and headed south on Granville Street.

Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened, but at around 37th Avenue the Toyota went off the road hitting a steel power pole, completely sheering it from the ground, said media relations officer Const. Jason Doucette.

The impact caused live wires to come into contact with nearby trees, starting a fire. The driver of the Toyota, who was the lone occupant, had to be freed from the car and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Doucette said the driver of the BMW stayed at the scene and spoke to officers.

“Our investigators are trying to piece together exactly what happened,” he said. “No charges have been laid at this point, no tickets have been issued.”

He said investigators are asking any witnesses and anyone with dash cam video who may have been driving on Granville Street between King Edward and West 37th avenues at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday to call officers at 604-717-9185.
