The burning of combustible material – like grass, underbrush and dead wood – can help reduce wildfire severity, and even act as a "guard," if a fire were to spread in that direction.

The Wildfire Service scheduled the burn for April 26, but there are a variety of factors that can delay a burn or cancel one altogether. If there is too much wind, the relative humidity isn't right, or the grass is too green, all of these things can affect if a prescribed burn will move forward.

Notices will be put out in advance of prescribed burns so that locals are aware and can plan ahead.
