Author of 'Crazy Rich Asians' in Vancouver to discuss his latest novel

The bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians and China Rich Girlfriend is coming to Vancouver this week.

A movie adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians based on Kwan's book is scheduled for release on August 17, 2018. The movie is being financed and co-produced by Ivanhoe Pictures with Nina Jacobson, who also produced The Hunger Games movies. The film is being directed by Jon. M. Chu, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. Crazy Rich Asians stars Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, and Michelle Yeoh.

Kevin Kwan grew up in Singapore and now lives in New York but he will be discussing his latest novel, Rich People Problems, on Wednesday May 9 at the Broadway and Granville Indigo. In an Instagram post, Kwan says this is his his first Pacific Northwest book tour.

Rich People Problems is the final book in the trilogy and is described as "an uproarious new novel of a family riven by fortune, an ex-wife driven psychotic with jealousy, a battle royale fought through couture gown sabotage and the heir to one of Asia's greatest fortunes locked out of his inheritance."

The event will be moderated by Doretta Lau, author of the short story collection How Does a Single Blade of Grass Thank the Sun? Lau's book was shortlisted for the City of Vancouver Book Award and longlisted for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award.

The discussion and book signing event starts at 7 p.m.
