Local musician Spirit broke the Guinness World Record for 'longest marathon playing guitar' at the River Rock Casino Resort on May 12.

Spirit clocked in 124.5 hours beating the previous record held by David Browne from Dublin, Ireland who played for over 114 hours straight in 2011.

He began jamming at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 7 and completed the challenge before 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. His brother Joe was there to cheer him on and three back-up guitars were available in case he needed to restring.

The footage and details from his challenge will be reviewed by Guinness World authorities to determine if he met all the requirements to make it into the books with an official record.

Spirit dedicated his 'longest marathon playing guitar' challenge to his parents that died of cancer and raised over $10,000 in donations for the Canadian Cancer Society, according to a release.

He has been a regular performer at Great Canadian Casino locations and River Rock donated $1,000 for every day that he completed his challenge to raise $6,000.
