A new show is launching on History that you're probably going to want to check out. Bud Empire takes a close look inside the life and work of a B.C. "pot-repreneur", or what would formerly be known as a "drug dealer".

A new show is launching on History that you're probably going to want to check out.

Bud Empire takes a close look inside the life and work of a B.C. "pot-repreneur", or what would formerly be known as a "drug dealer".

Bob Kay is the main character in the series, which I was able to watch the first two episodes of in advance of airing. He's an interesting personality. A family man who dropped out of school in grade 7, Kay cares deeply about the wellbeing of his wife and kids, and we're taken inside his strange world operating on the fringes of the law.

Early on the narrator tells us that "The legality of Bob's business [Be Kind dispensary in Kelowna] is in question" and that they operate in a sort of "legal limbo".

They live in fear of being shut down in one way or another, and the show relays the stress around running this sort of business. It also shows how Kay goes about his business and his life, forging partnerships and evolving his company.

As is expected from reality TV there are some moments that almost seem re-enacted or embellished, but not fake. If you're a fan of shows like History's Yukon Gold you're going to love this unique look at a modern-day gold rush happening all around us. It offers an unparalleled look into a weird and murky business.

The show premiers Tuesday June 5th, days before the Canadian senate will be making its final vote on the Cannabis Act. Learn more HERE.
