Woman killed in Ladner car crash that is suspected to have involved alcohol

A young woman was killed and her female friend injured in a suspected alcohol-related crash in Ladner Saturday night. The two-car collision occurred on Highway 17A at Ladner Trunk Road around 10 p.m.

According to Deas Island Traffic Services, a northbound vehicle on Highway 17A was stopped at the side of the road and both women behind it when it was struck by another northbound vehicle. A 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her friend, 20, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other driver remained at the scene. The stretch of highway was closed for several hours and reopened at 3 a.m.
