Police are investigating whether or not human remains found near Ucluelet are those of a missing Squamish man and his friend.

On June 6, officers deemed the disappearance of Squamish resident Daniel Archbald and his friend Ryan Daley as suspicious.

RCMP say the remains were located late last week by a woman walking her dog in an area near the town.

“At this time, it is too early to determine whether the remains are of missing men Ryan Daley and Daniel Archbald and police continue to investigate their disappearance,” wrote Sgt. Janelle Shoihet in a news release on June 18.

“We are working with the families of the missing men.”

Investigators and the BC Coroners Service are trying to identify the remains.

Since the two men went missing, Ucluelet RCMP said officers have pursued a number of investigative avenues in an effort to locate 37-year-old Archbald, and Daley, who is 43.

This has included search and rescue team efforts, as well as an aerial search.

The pair was last seen leaving Ucluelet Harbour on May 16.

The case has since been handed over to the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.
