Malene Foyd, who works for the Ministry of Environment, logged four trips during the week of May 28 to June 3 and traveled a total of 48.8 km by bike. Foyd says she couldn't believe it when her friends texted her to let her know that she won.

"I have dreamt of going to Portugal for years to swim in the Atlantic Ocean," she says and had been wanting to go on a bike trip. "I have used my bike as my method of transportation since I learned biking as a three-year-old in Denmark. I always bike to work, rain or shine."

Foyd will travel with her husband to Portugal for an eight day cycling adventure from Porto to Lisbon and thanks Exodus Travels for the opportunity. "I am excited about seeing the country by bike, as it is a wonderful, calm way to travel."

Terri-Lynn Gifford, provincial program manager with GoByBike BC Society says this was a record-breaking year with 50,371 registered participants across the province. "Participants logged a total of 1.2 million kilometers and saved 314,717 kilograms of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere in just one week. The Exodus sponsored trip to Portugal was a huge motivator to get people to register and log their trips."

Exodus Travels marketing manager Robin Brooks says after over 44 years of creating cycling tours across the globe "we truly believe in giving back to people in the communities we visit and the natural environment" by supporting Bike to Work and School Week.

"A big congratulations to everyone who took part in the 2018. Encourage your family, friends and colleagues to get on their bikes – whether you are commuting to work, new to biking, a weekend warrior or taking a cycling vacation, you are always leaving the world a better place when you see it by two wheels," Brooks says.
