BC Ferries is cancelling some reservations on the Horseshoe Bay - Departure Bay route due to a delay in repairing one of its vessels.

The Coastal Inspiration was supposed to go into service on June 23 but a repair to a propeller hub is taking longer to complete and the ship is not expected to be in service until at least June 30.

Affected customers will be notified that their reservation is cancelled via email and will receive a refund.

“We sincerely apologize for this unexpected change in service,” says Corrine Storey, BC Ferries’ VP and CEO. “We recognize how much this affects our customers, and the travel plans they have made.”

BC Ferries says passengers traveling without a reservation can expect sailing delays with the busiest day expected to be Sunday, June 24.

The company is adding five sailings between Vancouver and Vancouver Island on June 24 and reservations are available for those sailings. The extra sailings include a 12:30 a.m. trip from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay and early morning additions at 5:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. from Duke Point to Tsawwassen and back.

“All of our regularly scheduled ships are operating this weekend. Our terminal and on board crew are prepared and will ensure traffic moves as quickly and smoothly as possible. We are doing everything possible to repair this vessel and look forward to providing full service on this route as soon as we can,” says Storey.
